The fear I felt

Waking up one morning

To see a round figure rise from the west

(Ah!) Is it really happening?

The thought tore through me like a tornado

****

To the verse, my heart went

Didn’t you hear the verse[1]?

That Allah (SWT) will continue to accept repentance

Until the sun rises from the west

Bearing one of the signs of the last day

****

And then I turned to the EAST

To see the sun rising from there

As clear as day

The relief I felt

It had been the moon still going in

****

Are you not afraid?

What would be the feeling?

To see the sun rising from the west

When no repentance shall be accepted

Would you then not hasten?

To seek forgiveness today

[1] Sûrat Al-Anʿâm, 6:158. This âyah does not mention the rising of the sun from the west. However the âyah does indicate that no tawba is accepted after the materialization of the major signs of God, heralding the end of time. As for Ḥadîth literature, there is in fact a ḥadîth in Ṣaḥiḥ Muslim (ḥadîth No. 2759) which shows that tawba will not be accepted after the sun rises from the west.
